Building Bridges in Macon County: BTW Graduation

Macon County high school juniors and seniors, many of whom are fulfilling requirements for Bridge Builders Alabama, meet every other Tuesday night at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church on Highway 81 between Notasulga and Tuskegee.  Auburn University undergraduates work alongside them, as they develop skills related to life, work, and college.  The program is funded in part by the Appalachian Regional Commission.

IDSC_0032 t was great to see seventeen of the students from our program walk across the stage to receive their diplomas. I, as well as two other mentors, Raven Conwell and Kadedra Smith, were so excited to cheer for the students as they celebrated their successes. The past two years have flown by. It’s been such a pleasure working with each and every one of these students. They are going to, and have already done, great things!

DSC_0033The seventeen students from the Booker T. Washington High School Class of 2013 that were involved in the mentoring program were Chantae Alexander, Cynkoria Avery, Roberta Baldwin, Ashlyn Dunn, Courtney Ford, Erin Gima, Elizabeth Graham, Lionel Green, Chelsea Greer, Shacorie Hall, OnShae Harris, Beonca Mack, Desiree O’Neal, Kiara Robinson, Kendrick Rodgers, Ebonee Sanders, and the valedictorian, Quanisha Blackmon.
Congratulations, BTW Class of 2013! We are proud of you!

  1. Beth, Raven, and Kadedra: Those seventeen students and all others you have touched will have a bright future. Good luck to former students and most importantly “thank you” for mentoring our youth.
