Building Bridges in Macon County: August 25

Twenty-five Macon County 11th graders are on a year-long journey with undergraduate mentors at Auburn University.  Coordinated by Dr. Mark Wilson and graduate assistant Raven Conwell, the program began during the summer when the students participated in the Bridge Builders Alabama program.  Twelve students joined around 120 others at Huntingdon College in Montgomery for a week-long Junior Conference; thirteen students participated in a two-day adaptation of the conference at Booker T. Washington High School in Tuskegee.

Students meet each week with undergraduate mentors from Auburn University, and we kicked of our Thursday evening meetings at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church (halfway between the high schools, Notasulga and BTW) on August 25.  Parents of ten participants joined us, and we developed what Bridge Builders folk call a Full Value Contract, words that express and signatures that verify and commit to the work we plan to do together.

Check this blog regularly for updates and pics on the project.
